SAFE ONLINE BANKING

Today i want to share about the safe online banking recommended from Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commision (MCMC) or Suruhanjaya Komunikasi dan Multimedia Malaysia (SKMM). This tips very important to make sure your online transaction become secure from other problem like Trojan attacks, Malware, Pishing and many more. There tips to safe your online banking:

1. Get a good anti-virus solution

You need to protect yourself from Trojan attacks. Malware has become very sophisticated these days and any PC without an up-to-date robust anti-virus system installed is at very high risk. Computer infected with Trojans are especially vulnerable. you may be typing and sending your banking instructions to your online banking provider but that information may also be going, without your knowledge to some criminal somewhere.

The good news is that there are good free anti-virus solutions around if you do not want to fork out money for paid solutions. We do recommend however that you consider buying a solution. If you believe that your PC has been compromised, call your bank and have your online banking facility suspended until you clean up your PC

2. Update your browser

A simple thing like updating your web browser regularly can keep you safe. Web browser makers update their browsers when any vulnerabilities have been detected or when they have installed additional security measures into their application. Using an old version of a web browser is akin to walking out at night without escorts or protective gear.

3. Choose a safe place for online banking

Never carry out financial transactions online in public places. If you are accessing the Internet from places like your local coffee cafĂ© using their free WiFi service, you may be at risk of being snooped upon by someone else on that same WiFi network. Only go online at safe places like your home and your office (if you are certain the network there is safe).

4. Keep a sharp eye on the screen

Never click on a link that supposedly leads you to your bank. The link may look like your bank's uRL but in reality it may be a fake site set up to capture your banking details and steal your money. Always look at the uRL listed on the browser and make sure that it is the correct web address. It pays to memorise your bank's web address and to type in your online bank's web address manually every time.

Most online banking systems have layers of security measures. These include two step logins that involve pictures or phrases you have selected previously being shown on the screen before you type your password. Make sure every single time that the picture and or phrase is correct.

5. Ignore emails and SMSes

Banks do not ask you to re-verify your bank details through emails. Banks do not suspend your account through email. Likewise with text messages. You can safely ignore any such requests. Never ever send someone your login details over email.

6. Online purchases

Go ahead and make online purchases from known sites. These sites have secure ecommerce systems and measures in place that create a safe environment for shopping online. What you need to do is to be wary of purchases from dodgy sites and also direct transactions with buyers and sellers found on forums and auction sites. When you make those sorts of transactions, be careful of sharing too much banking information with them. Other than your name and account number, they do not need to know anything else.

In summary, keep your PC updated, install a strong anti-virus system and be extra-aware when online. Ignore suspicious requests, only connect to banks from safe spots and deal with strangers cautiously. Follow these steps and you will be safe from cybercrime. Share these same tips with everyone in your home that has an online bank account.

That the tips to makes your online banking more safe and secure from other problem. Please be careful with your online transactions.

Alternative of presentation tools

Microsoft PowerPoint is a slide show presentation program currently developed by Microsoft. PowerPoint's was officially launched on May 22, 1990, as a part of the Microsoft Office suite. PowerPoint is useful for helping develop the slide-based presentation format, and is currently one of the most commonly-used presentation programs available.

Nowadays, lectures, teacher, motivator and also the student use slide show to make their presentation become more effectively and can attract more attention from the audients. Power Point is a great tool for creating digital slide based presentations and it’s probably the best tool out there. However, there are many alternatives and presentation tools. So I will expose about the other presentation which would be use for better presentation.  There are three presentation tools what I suggest as an alternative to Microsoft Power Point.

1.       Prezi

retrieved from http://appyhour.io/
Prezi is known as the zooming presentation tool. It has been around for some years now and comes with a subscription based license model. It costs money, but you can use a crippled version for free. The free version will put a watermark on your prezis and you’ll be limited to non-private presentations.

Imagine a prezi as taking your PowerPoint slides and randomly placing them on a big canvas. Then draw a path between those slides in the order you wish to present and add some zooming effects. The result you get is a typical Prezi presentation. Professional Prezi presentations however take advantage of the spatial coherence between slides and use the zoom out (overview) vs. zoom in (details) features to better get across the message of the presentation.

If you’re tired of the linear slideshow concept and want to easily add some zooming effects to your presentations, Prezi is the right tool for you.

Advantages – Present on multiple devices; can share with coworkers, can be used by practically anyone, easy to learn how to use, cost effective, can work on the presentation offline.

Disadvantages – Very template driven and cannot necessarily customize slides.

2.       Powtoon
retrieved from http://techcrunch.com

Probably one of the leaders in the DIY presentation animation space, Powtoon allows consumers to create presentations and videos that are animated, interesting, and engaging.  It is not difficult to learn how to use and the software is a breath of fresh air to those looking to create presentations that are different and engaging.

If you really want to inspire your audience with a great pitch, story and emotional hooks, this is the way to go; PowToon allows you to present using animated characters and to introduce yourself or your product using “story telling” rather than “fact telling.”  Most importantly, you can create short animated video clips from your presentations and embed them into your website.

3.       Windows Movie Maker

retrieved from http://portable-windows-movie-maker.en.softonic.com/

Freeware video editing software by Microsoft. It is a part of Windows Essentials software suite and offers the ability to create and edit videos as well as to publish them on OneDrive, Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr.

This is a software that allows you to create and edit videos. This program is manufactured by Microsoft Windows and is available for free. Movie Maker is non-linear editing software, which means that the original file that was placed on your hard drive will not be modified in any way. Movie Maker creates its own distinct video file while you are editing, so that if you want, you can create several different movies using the same footage. Various features of Movie Maker include time line narration, effects, audio track, transitions, titles and credits.

Advantages:  Free, simple to use for beginners, great for photo slideshows

That is three alternative presentation tools which we can use in our presentation. As a teacher or lecturer, usng a good slide in class presentation is really important. In teaching student from Gen Y, we need to more effective in deliver the input to them.

My first DSLR camera

I received  Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera from my wife during our wedding on 03/06/2012. So i want to share about my experience while using it.

This is my Canon EOS 1100D. Actually i not person who really obsess with digital camera but as a gift from my lovely wife, it is really valuable for me. But the problem is I still dont know how to use the function provided. When take a picture i always use full automatic setting. it was easy and the result not so bad. I was try to using the manual setting but the result it not ok for me because i dont know how to play with the ISO, Point AF System, autofocus points and many more.

I always share my family picture at Facebook. To me, it not because to share with others, but the important thing is to save my pictures. I afraid, if i only save all the pictures in my laptop, maybe i will lost it when my laptop get a problem.

For the editing pictures, i use a Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP). It is free and it really good to me make a image organising and editing application. It is provided and will get it together in the box with every EOS camera.

This is example of my pictures by using Canon EOS 1100D and editing by Canon's Digital Photo Professional.

See you again in next entries....
