National Digital Economy Initiative - eUsahawan

Nowadays, business through online is one of the most popular method. Electronic commerce or e-commerce is a term for all types of business, or commercial transaction, which involves the transfer of information on the Internet. It encompasses a variety of businesses, from retail websites consumers residing, through auction or music sites, to business exchanges trading goods and services between companies. At the moment it is one of the most important aspects of the Internet emerged.

Malaysia also have a potential to being more successful in this business. From that, Malaysian Government through Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) launched the program aims to inspire entrepreneurs and expose Malaysian youth entrepreneurship and micro-entrepreneurs to digital. The program called eUsahawan.

The Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) was incorporated in 1996 to oversee the development of the MSC Malaysia and to advise the Malaysian Government on legislation and policies, as well as to set breakthrough standards for multimedia operations. MDeC was given an additional task by the government, which was to develop a blueprint for a Digital Economy that draws from the huge opportunities created by the Digital world.

The program was developed through a strategic collaboration with industry partners including the Department of Technical Education, Ministry of Education through Kolej Komuniti, Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), Persatuan Eksekutif Perniagaan,, eSentral, Celcom, Karangkraf and Lelong.My.

The apprentice project includes training to 423 lecturers as master trainers and 2,363 students participated in the curriculum. So far 2,148 students create an online presence with 78 percent of generated revenues. To encourage e-commerce, students or participant are also offered the premises for free online through the website Lelong.com to start a business during the program. To improve the transfer of knowledge, lecturers are now allowed by the government to be a digital entrepreneur and earned income from a business.

Hopefully within this program, can create a generation of young entrepreneurs and raise incomes of the general population via the use of the latest technology. This will become alternative ways to student after graduate at an educational institution. Now, most of them have to find seek employment in government or private sector. But through eUsahawan, they can develop the skills of technopreneurs who can survive on their own and increase incomes.
